KUDOS TO LASU VC: A COMMENDABLE DISPLAY OF TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
We salute Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), for promoting the principles of transparency and accountability in university administration.
The reported disclosure that LASU generated about ₦13 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) within four years deserves public commendation. Making the financial performance of a public institution known to the people strengthens accountability and public confidence.
This is the kind of openness we want to see across Nigeria's educational institutions.
It reminds us of the example of Professor Is-haq Oloyede at JAMB, whose administration became widely known for publicly reporting JAMB's revenues and remittances.
Whether it is ₦13 billion or ₦1 billion, the important principle is accountability: tell the public what was generated and demonstrate how resources are being used to develop the institution.
We therefore say KUDOS to Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and the LASU management.
May this culture of transparency, accountability and responsible leadership continue in LASU and spread across Nigerian universities.
